Level 2 Top Rope
Take your belay skills to the next level.
This class builds on your existing top-rope belay skills and teaches the techniques required to belay independently without a ground anchor and access the Vertical Ventures Pit climbing area.
You’ll learn how to:
- Tie a retraced figure eight
- Properly set up and use a GriGri
- Perform partner gear checks
- Belay without a ground anchor
- Use proper positioning while belaying
Prerequisites
- Ages 13+
- Current Level 1/top-rope belay check at Vertical Ventures
- Comfortable climbing 5.9 roped routes

Prerequisites

During class, participants will practice:
- tying a retraced figure eight
- proper GriGri setup and partner checks
- safe climber and belayer procedures
- belaying without a ground anchor
- proper positioning while belaying
- taking turns climbing and belaying on the wall
Once a participant demonstrates the required knot-tying and belaying skills from start to finish, they will receive their Level 2 certification and be eligible to access the Pit climbing area.
